US Senator Urges Arming Iranian Civilians in Call for Internal Uprising

(MENAFN) Lindsey Graham has suggested that the United States should supply large quantities of weapons to civilians inside Iran, arguing that such a move could trigger internal unrest and potentially lead to regime instability.

In remarks made during a televised interview, Graham framed the idea as what he called a “Second Amendment solution” for Iran, presenting it as an alternative to deploying American ground forces. He claimed that empowering civilians with weapons could shift the internal balance of power.

He stated: “If I were President Trump and I were Israel, I would load the Iranian people up with weapons so they can go to the streets armed and turn the tide of battle inside Iran,” according to his comments.

The proposal was discussed in response to observations that similar approaches had been attempted in the past. It was noted that earlier efforts to support unrest inside Iran during periods of domestic protests had not produced lasting political change, despite external assistance measures described by officials at the time.

Graham further insisted that such a strategy should be repeated, arguing it would create significant pressure on Iran’s security forces. He suggested that armed internal opposition would make conditions more difficult for state security institutions and increase internal conflict.

The senator has a long history of advocating for aggressive measures against Iran’s government, including calls for military strikes and broader regime change strategies.

Separately, analyst Christopher Helali argued that external objectives in relation to Iran are not focused on political liberation. Instead, he claimed they aim to weaken the country’s long-term stability. He also pointed to damage to civilian infrastructure, including healthcare and educational facilities, as evidence of broader strategic targeting.
