Mamdani Says War on Iran Should Be Opposed on Every Ground
In an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Mamdani criticized the economic cost of military action, emphasizing that it comes at a time when many citizens are grappling with a historic affordability crisis.
“I think we're seeing the fact that in the face of Americans facing a historic affordability crisis that we have the pursuit of something that has already cost $23 billion thus far — the kind of money that could transform working-class Americans’ lives,” he said, highlighting the potential benefits if those funds were redirected toward health care, education, and student debt relief.
“And all of that being thrown aside for the pursuit of yet another regime change war,” he added.
Mamdani stressed that a war with Iran should be resisted on “procedural,” “moral” and “political” grounds, as well as due to its economic implications. He also reflected on past experiences, noting that, despite his age, he recalls the “disastrous consequences of regime change wars,” as stated by reports.
