Iran calls on UN to hold Israel, US accountable for conflict
In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the Security Council to acknowledge the responsibility of both countries for the aggression, including demands for compensation and reparations. The letter emphasized that the council must hold these parties accountable to prevent similar acts in the future and to uphold international peace and security.
The correspondence also highlighted that political and military leaders who authorize such attacks bear individual legal responsibility for the crime of aggression under international law.
The clash began on June 13 when Israel conducted airstrikes targeting Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian locations. According to Iranian health authorities, these strikes resulted in at least 606 deaths and over 5,300 injuries.
The United States escalated the situation by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites located in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan.
In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets, causing at least 29 fatalities and more than 3,400 injuries, based on reports from a Jerusalem-based academic institution.
The hostilities ended following a ceasefire brokered by the United States, which came into effect on June 24.
